Amidst the devastating effects brought by the rampant COVID-19 pandemic on the economy of Hong Kong, our Group has tried every means to turn a crisis into a business opportunity. In the past six months, we have observed a substantial increase in the demand for online education services. Our Group is determined to accelerate the development of the digital learning business and has been making continuous and diversified investments in information technology to provide a wider range of education services. The Board has been seeking synergy with insightful people to help further strengthen our current online education development, so as to cater to the anticipated growing number of learner users.
On July 29, 2020, Advance Learning Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company, has completed the subscription of new shares in PhD Online Limited, which provides online education on professional qualifications, financial knowledge and interest learning and we hold 60% of the total issued share capital of PhD Online Limited upon completion of the allotment and issuance of such new shares. On the same day, we have appointed Dr. Lam Yat Ming, founder of PhD Online as our Strategic Development Consultant to advise on and assist in formulating and overseeing the potential development of our Group’s business in the aforesaid strategic direction of online and digital learning.
Since then, we have been working closely Dr. Lam and continue to formulate and execute the further development plan of the online education platform. On October 8, 2020, PhD Online was merged with the CourseZ, a brand-new online education platform aiming to offer enriched learning experiences to learner users and allowing content providers of different expertise to start their online education business.
