Beacon College X SungLee Korean Language School

Collaborate in launching professional and star-rated Korean language courses

Maximizing Korean learning locations in Hong Kong

According to Beacon Pop Index survey conducted in March 2019, teenagers generally believe that “Korean” is the global trend of future learning, apart from Cantonese, Putonghua and English (21.72%). Over half respondents “suggest” providing additional foreign language course in the current secondary school curriculum (52%), showing that students want to equip themselves and improve their competence through learning foreign languages during their secondary school days. The survey also discovers that, students choosing “self-learning” and learn foreign language “more than 6 months” only takes up 25.56%, reflecting teenagers are not learning foreign language systematically, leading them hard to sustain their studies. On the other hand, those who selected “foreign language school/personal tutor/tutorial school” as learning ways and took “more than 6 months or above” for a foreign language learning accounts for 50.79%, reflecting that proper guidance and systematic study can enhance the patience and persistence in learning foreign languages.

In order to provide a more systematic way for teenagers who are interested in learning Korean language, Beacon College and SungLee Korean Language School jointly launch Korean studies courses, providing Korean intensive classes, which aim to let teenagers reach professional level of Korean in short period of time. All courses will be taught by Korean teachers to help students learn the four strands, “listening, speaking, reading and writing”. Some of the lessons’ level corresponds with TOPIK’s (Test of Proficiency in Korean) grading, students are able to apply for relevant level of TOPIK after finishing the whole course. The courses focus on face-to-face practice and systematic study, the textbook used are built with AR technology, students can learn pronunciation anywhere through their smartphones.

In the future, we would like to integrate offline and online platforms, planning to start classes in all 19 centers of Beacon College progressively, maximizing Korean Language learning locations in Hong Kong, and establish a Korean channel in Beacon BOnLine.com.hk learning platform. Students can test what they have learned and consult tutors anytime, as well as to make reference to other students’ questions and teachers’ explanation, discover more knowledge themselves and enrich their learning experience.
